چکیده

XML is universally recognized as the standard document format for the purpose of inter change and device independent presentation Literature shows many e orts towards the devel opment of formal and conceptual models for XML although no commonly accepted model exists as yet In this paper we present a survey of some formal and conceptual modeling techniques and discuss the merits and shortcomings of such techniques We then present HNR Heteroge neous Nested Relations a formal modeling method for representing XML and discuss how this formal model could be used to derive many useful results on XML query language and how this could lead to a potential conceptual modeling technique as well

Augmenting Traditional Conceptual Models to Accommodate XML Structural Constructs

Although it is possible to present XML Schema graphically, such representations do not raise the level of abstraction for XML schemata in the same way traditional conceptual models raise the level of abstraction for data schemata. Traditional conceptual models, on the other hand, do not accommodate several XML Schema structures. Thus, there is a need to enrich traditional conceptual models with...

تحلیل مدل‌های ارزیابی و موفقیت کتابخانه‌های دیجیتالی

: This paper discusses the dominant models of a broader field of success and evaluation of digital libraries and seeks the relationship between the models and their origins. The main objectives of the paper are recognizing digital libraries’ key success and evaluation models, holistic representation of the links between DLs’ evaluation and success models and frameworks in a unique window, and i...

Data Models for Conceptual Structures

A well-founded data model for Conceptual Structures can help in understanding issues of definitional semantics, efficient implementations and even syntax of proposed languages. This paper presents several useful data models of increasing complexity and applicability that can support Conceptual Structures definitional semantics. The models are presented in Haskell, a non-strict, stronglytyped fu...

Conceptual and numerical models of the evolution of pedogenic carbonates in soils of arid and semi-arid regions: A review

Introduction Calcareous soils are widely distributed in arid and semi-arid regions of the world and the presence of carbonates in the soils affects both physicochemical properties and the pedogenic evolution. In addition, soil carbon plays a critical role in the global carbon cycle, and pedogenic carbonates are an important sink for atmospheric carbon. Pedogenic carbonates are also the proxy o...

Ontologies as Conceptual Models for XML Documents

Access to XML-based documents currently relies on query languages that are closely tied to the document structures, i.e. when looking for information one has to be aware of this structure and cannot easily specify the information needs conceptually. Our approach uses ontologies to access sets of distributed XML documents on a conceptual level. We integrate conceptual modeling, inheritance, and ...
